Discover the Distinctive Kerner Variety
The Kerner Alto Adige DOC from Adler Winery is a unique and expressive white wine that captures the essence of the Valle Isarco’s alpine slopes. Born from a cross between Schiava and Riesling, this variety was created in Weinsberg, Germany, in 1929 and was named in honor of poet and physician Justinus Kerner. The Kerner grapes flourish in the light, gravelly, and sandy soils of the mid-Valle Isarco’s higher, sunlit hillsides. Despite their later ripening period, the grapes yield a full-bodied and flavorful wine that has earned high acclaim for its structure and complexity.
Crafted by Nature’s Best Conditions
Cultivated at elevations between 650 and 970 meters, the Kerner vines are exposed to optimal sunlight and benefit from the stony, skeleton-rich alluvial soils infused with diorite and quartz phyllite. These mineral-rich conditions, paired with the cool mountain breezes, contribute to the wine’s balanced acidity, aromatic profile, and remarkable finesse.
An Artisanal Approach to Winemaking
The Adler Winery’s approach to vinification ensures that the unique qualities of the Kerner grape are preserved and enhanced. The wine undergoes delicate processing and careful crushing, followed by controlled-temperature fermentation to retain its bright and intense aromatics. Ageing on fine lees in stainless steel tanks adds depth and roundness to the wine, all while avoiding malolactic fermentation to maintain its fresh, lively character.
